Acaban de llegar las primeras nieves…

De vuelta en Manchester

Lamentablemente me he tenido que volver a Manchester sin completar el
experimento. Lo mas probable es que lo haga de nuevo en febrero asi es
que hay algo de retraso pero me da tiempo a mirar los datos que he
obtenido (que no son muchos) y ajustar el experimento mejor para la
proxima vez.

En fin, estas son las cosas de la fisica experimental.

A parte de eso un frio que te pela y pronostico de nieve. Por lo que
creo es parecido en España asi es que parace que llega el invierno
finalmente (con un mes de adelanto).

Mi experimento por ahora…

Con los dias que llevo aqui he perdido la nocion del tiempo. Me suele pasar de lo monotono que es. En fin, para que os hagais una idea, empeze el miercoles 16 por la maniana y como podeis comprobar desde el jueves 17 por la maniana no he medido nada. Ahora mismo tengo 1.5 medidas hechas (si por lo menos fueran 2 podria decir algo):

MCR BEAM NEWS
20-NOV-2005 08:13 Expert assistance is now on site and investigating
the fault with the Ion source extract power
supply. Once this has been resolved we then have
to run up the Ion source and carry out basic
tuning and alignment of the machine. Due to the
power outage yesterday and the fact that we have
not had beam since then, we are unsure of the
condition the machine is in at present. A further
update will be issued at 10:00 or as we make
progress
20-NOV-2005 06:16 Investigation and repairs are continuing into the
fault with the ion source extract power supply. It
is supected that an electrode has become damaged
and will need replacing before repairing the power
supply itself.
Update at 09:00.
20-NOV-2005 02:54 The source blockage has now been cleared but on
switch on the source extract voltage power supply
failed. This is now being investigated.
Update 06:00.
19-NOV-2005 23:53 All equpment is now on and appears to be running
correctly but the source output is very low. This
is probably due to a partial blockage after the
power outage.
Update 03:00.
19-NOV-2005 22:44 Most off the equipment affected by rthe power
outage has now been recovered. Tank 3 is now
re-assembled and back on at MS. The outstanding
fault is on the main ring fundamental RF sytems
and the expert on this is expected imminently.
Update at 24:00.
19-NOV-2005 17:54 Due to the power outage we still have mutiple
pieces of equipment off and are doing our best to
get things back up and running, support engineers
have been called in to assist.
19-NOV-2005 15:39 We have just lost power to the site, most
equipment has gone off.
19-NOV-2005 14:52 The process of re-assembling Mod 3 power valve
assembly with new components is now well under
way. We estimate another one and half hours of
mechanical fitting before low power electrical
testing can begin. A further update will be given
around 16:30.
19-NOV-2005 13:58 Attn Methane Moderator Users: scheduled liquid
transfer 16:00 Hrs Today
19-NOV-2005 12:34 Work on tank 3 power valve (116) is continuing and
no definitive problem has been found. We are now
in the process of changing several components
which may be contributory factors. Due to amount
of work involved we are very unlikely to be
running beam before 18:00 hours. Further updates
as when progress is made.
19-NOV-2005 08:48 The Main Control Room message server went down
during the night and has just been fixed.
Update on the situation with Modulator 3:-
Repairs carried out in the early morning failed at
02:02.
A significant amount of damage was evident to one
of the high voltage insulators and water pipes had
been burnt through once again. The complete high
power feed line and valve assembly has been
stripped down and cleaned up again. As this repair
has been carried out several times in the last few
days we feel a further and more detailed
examination of the system is warranted. Our senior
R.F. Engineer will be on site soon to begin his
assessment.
It is very unlikely that we will be running beam
before 12:00 hours.
Updates will be posted as and when we have more
news.

19-NOV-2005 04:54 The problem with the pipes in Tk 3 has reappeared.
The whole feedline and valve circuit is now being
dismantled and examined to locate the root of the
fault.
Update at 07:00.
19-NOV-2005 02:54 The pipe problem has re-occured on Tk 3. It has
been decided to strip down all the feedline for
examination.
This will take several hours,
Update 06:00.
19-NOV-2005 02:06 Tk 3 has been on briefly and has now tripped out
again. The cathode modulator appears to have
failed. his is now being replaced.
Update 03:00.
19-NOV-2005 00:06 Damge to Tk 3 has been repaired and water pipes
replaced.
The circuits are now being reassembled before
testing.
Update 01:30.
18-NOV-2005 22:19 Breakdown damage has been found on Tank3 116 valve
cicuit.
Water pipes and mechanical parts need to be
cleaned and replaced.
Update on progress at 00:00hrs
18-NOV-2005 20:30 Unfortunately we have a re-occurrence of the Tank3
116 valve water leak. Extra personnel have been
called in to assist. Update 22:30
18-NOV-2005 19:02 BEAM ON
18-NOV-2005 18:39 beam at MS/2.
18-NOV-2005 18:20 Conditioning Tank3, beam on at base rate.
18-NOV-2005 17:29 We are still conditioning tank 3 update at 1900
hrs.
18-NOV-2005 16:49 Repairs on tank 3 are now complete and we are
currently conditioning the tank. update at 1730.
18-NOV-2005 14:43 The TK3 feedline has now been checked. It was
undamaged and so is being reassembled. Once the
area is cleared of equipment and personnel we’ll
be preparing to run low level power into the
system. A further update will be given at
16:30Hrs.
18-NOV-2005 13:13 Tank 3 update.
The 116 Valve components are now assembled. We are
now going to take the feed line apart to see if
the problem originates with RF feedback. Further
update at 14.00 Hours.
18-NOV-2005 12:34 Tank 3 update.
Work has progressed well and we are about to place
the 116 valve back into the system. The system
will then be brought back on slowly to condition
the valve. Further update at 13.30 Hours.
18-NOV-2005 11:21 Tank 3 update.
The decision has been taken to clean and/or repair
the damaged components, so we hope to be able to
start rebuilding the system shortly. Next update
will be given at 13:00Hrs.
18-NOV-2005 09:40 Work is in hand to repair and refurbish the 116
cct on tank 3 in the Linac. One fresh expert is in
attendance and another is on his way from Warwick
but is not expected for another hour or so. Update
@11:00 hrs.
18-NOV-2005 07:57 Further investigation has shown another failed
water pipe and high voltage breakdown. Our experts
have been here all night and have gone home to get
some sleep. We should have some more assistance by
09:00 hrs. Update @09:30
18-NOV-2005 07:41 We are investigating the fault with Tank 3 RF and
will give another update shortly.
18-NOV-2005 06:59 We have a re-occurrence of the earlier problem on
RF Tank 3. Next update @ 07:30Hrs.
18-NOV-2005 04:02 BEAM ON
18-NOV-2005 02:52 Modulator 3, 116 valve, has been re-assembled and
is now warming up. Update at 04:00.
18-NOV-2005 01:27 Repairs are continuing but slower than expected.
Update at 03:00hrs.
17-NOV-2005 23:35 The high power valve assembly feeding Modulator 3
has been stripped down. Evidence of significant
high voltage breakdown has been found, along with
a fractured solder joint on part of the assembly.
Additional engineers have been called in to help
with the mechanical repair. Once this is completed
we will begin re-assembly and fit a new high power
valve. The valve will then take a few hours to
condition up to full power. Further update at
01:30 or as we make progress.
17-NOV-2005 21:57 We have investigated the problem with modulator 3
and found another significant water leak. Experts
have been summoned. Update at Midnight.
17-NOV-2005 21:46 We are currently investigating further problems
with Modulator-3.
17-NOV-2005 18:06 MS Beam restored @18:00 Hrs
17-NOV-2005 17:03 Modulator 3 is now being conditioned to HT. The
other linac equipment is on. beam should be
restored within the next hour. Update at 18:00 Hrs
if not
17-NOV-2005 16:02 The repair on Modulator 3 should be completed in
the next 30 Mins. There will then be a period of
conditioning. Update at 17:00 Hrs
17-NOV-2005 14:55 The damaged water pipes have been removed and
replacements are being fitted. The feedline
components will then be refitted before testing.
Update at 16.00 Hours.
17-NOV-2005 13:30 The beam tripped due to Modulator 3 tripping off.
Whilst attempting to bring RF back on a large
breakdown was heard in the feedline / 116 Valve
area. We have investigated the problem and found a
significant water leak. Experts are in attendance
to rectify the problem. Update at 14.30 Hours.
17-NOV-2005 12:00 BEAM ON @ MS
17-NOV-2005 11:33 The shutter jack on MARI has now been replaced.
Unfortunately while we were off for this repair
some capacitors on Mod 3 in the Injector failed.
We are now working to replace them. Update
@12:00hrs.

Extraction kicker power supplies off due to a fire
in one of R4 switch rooms. The fire brigade are in
attendance.
16-NOV-2005 13:23 Attn Methane Moderator Users: A liquid transfer is
about to commence
16-NOV-2005 11:01 The beam will be going off at 07:00 on Thursday
morning to facilitate the replacement of the jack
on the MARI shutter.
This is expected to take approximately 4 hours. We
thank you for your patience and co-operation in
this matter.

El experimento sigue… o mas bien no.

Por ahora sigo esperando que arreglen parate del acelerador lineal. No se que problema tienen, pero llevamos sin neutrones dia y medio. Asi es que ahora mismo tengo algo que no tiene mala pinta pero que realmente no me dice nada.

Hay varias cosas preocupantes que no se si me vana a permitir terminar el experimento. Supongo que ya lo veremos.

Este se suponia que era mi ultimo experimento del doctorado, pero puesto que no parece que vaya a sacar nada ahora no tengo ni la mas remota idea del tiempo que me va a llevar terminar. Es muy preocupante.

En fin, tratare de mantener la calma.

Experimentando….

Todo va bastante mal por el momento. No es nada que yo haya hecho (afortunadamente), pero por ahora no tengo ningun resultado que me sea uil y no parece que vaya a tener ninguno a no ser que las cosas cambien mucho.

Todo esto desgraciadamente me lleva a tener que alargar mi doctorado por no se cuanto tiempo, lo cual es muuyyyyyyy preocupante. En fin, igual la cosas cambian de aqui a que termine le dia, pero por ahora todo va bastante de culo.

En fin, solo era por manteneros al dia.
